Madison Williams leads local delegation to state track meet

Madison Williams qualified in two events, leading three female athletes, and the Pine Bush boys’ team will send five athletes to Middletown on Friday and Saturday for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association track and field championships.

Williams qualified by winning the long jump and triple jumps on Friday with respective leaps of 18-5.5 and 38-10.75 at Faller Field.

Shaylen Goslar won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:46.67 to punch her ticket to the state meet.

Ella Galloway finished third in the pole vault on Thursday at Monroe-Woodbury, reaching a height of 12 feet to pass the state standard in the event.

Valley Central’s Catherine Primavera qualified for the state meet on Thursday in the 100-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 12.61. She finished fourth overall on Saturday with a time of 12.70 seconds.

On the boys’ side, Pine Bush’s JamesMichael Vizzari won the 400-meter dash in 49.96 to qualify for the state meet.

The Bushmen also swept the throwing events, sending two athletes to states. Joshua Dymond won the discus with a throw of 142-07, and Elijah Cruz won the shot put with a throw of 48-0.75.

Plexico Brooks qualified for the state meet in the high jump, clearing 6-3. He finished second overall.

Lavon James qualified for the state meet during Thursday’s preliminary with a time of 11.09 seconds. He finished fourth overall in the event with an 11.30 on Friday.
