Marlboro Mountain Ridgelines

I am glad we have a local paper to cover news that is important to our community.

It’s good to know that the Town of Marlborough has proposed to change a Town Code to lessen current protections for the Marlboro Mountain Ridgelines.

There has been a lot of discussion at the Public Hearings - pro & con. But I heard a young lady say something that really bothered me.

She said that most of the people at the meeting were older and that she and people “of her generation” were for the change to the law and support “progress” in building homes wherever, including the ridgelines.

I know younger people are busy raising families, often with two parents working, and running to lessons, sports, scouts and other important activities. However, I do feel, if they had the information and time, they would show support for balanced development that still protects the natural environment.

There will be one more opportunity to voice your concerns and make suggestions about what kind of place you want to live in. There will be a Town Board Hearing on Monday, February 12th at the Marlborough Town Hall in Milton, 7pm. You can also submit written statements to the Supervisors Office at trosa@marlboroughny.us.

I hope our “young people” do weigh in on the subject. Building houses on the ridgeline of the Marlboro Mountains will affect the stormwater runoff, the loss of habitat, and the views of the area for years to come.
