Daniel Maher let out a celebratory grunt when he crossed the finish line, as he qualified for the New York State Federation Division 2 track and field meet by outracing the competition in the boys’ 200-meter dash on Friday at the state qualifying track and field meet at Goshen High School.

He finished the race in 22.57, which also met the state at-large standard, but his win was enough to punch his ticket. The New York State Federation meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School in Syracuse.

Marlboro’s Victoria Maher and Juliana Juras entered the state qualifier, having already qualified for the state meet having met the state super standard in the discus, having reached 141 and 139-1, respectively.

Juras won the discus throw when she threw a personal best of 141-3 and Maher was second with a throw of 134. Juras qualified for the state meet in the girls’ shot put with a throw of 37-2, which met the state at-large standard.

Sean Robertson entered the meet, having met the super standard in the pole vault, reaching 13-6. He matched his season-best high when he won the event with an identical jump.

Maher and Robertson are juniors, while Juras and Victoria Maher are seniors, attending their last state meet. Victoria Maher missed most of last season with an injury.
