The Master Gardeners of Cornell Cooperative Extension are pleased to present this all-day gardening extravaganza featuring classes taught by Master Gardener Volunteers, Saturday, April 22 at SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Carolyn Keogh, Director of Education & Public Programs of the Olana Partnership will be the keynote speaker. In her keynote address “Olana: Place as Inspiration” Carolyn will present an informative talk about the vision of Frederick Church during the emergence of the 19th century ecological movement. The Marketplace is back; you’ll find new plants for your garden, vintage collectibles and other garden related items. Garden Day participants get to choose four classes from a list of 16 fabulous topics.
Whether your interest is in vegetable gardens, ornamental gardening, maintenance or problem solving, we’ve got you covered with up-to-date solutions. A class on vermicomposting will help you turn food scraps into fertilizer, the Attracting Hummingbirds, Butterflies and Bees class will help you turn your garden into a safe haven for them; and Growing a Cutting Garden for Seasonal Bouquets will guide you on how to have a bountiful supply of cut flowers. Want a better lawn? No-mow May-Do It Your Way and Understanding Your Home Lawn will inform you about responsible lawn care while still supporting nature with new no-mow methods. Shade caused by large trees and structures can be a challenge; but with the Made for The Shade class, find out how you can grow a beautiful garden in the shade, or be introduced to the Magic of Moss and many of its uses.
