Maybrook receives grants for sewer work and fireworks

Posted

The focus remains on sewer linings in Maybrook as the village receives yet another Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – funded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) administered by Orange County.

Following a recent public hearing on the 2025 CDBG grant, the village board decided to once again use the funding for sewer linings. The grant amount is still undetermined. Once the county receives applications from all municipalities who wish to apply the county Office of Community Development will decide how much funding will be allocated to each winning application. To date, over the years, Maybrook has received more than half a million dollars.

“We’ve been so successful in receiving grants for sewer linings” Mayor Dennis Leahy said, “that the board decided to stay the course.”

Admittedly not a “glamorous” project, sewer pipe lining is important, Leahy and village Engineer Sean Hoffman have noted in the past, because of the age of the pipes which has led to leaky and broken pipes, causing infiltration and extra flow into the village sewer plant.

In other grant news, Maybrook has received a $4,999 tourism grant from the county. The funds will be used for the village’s 4th of July celebration.
