The Maybrook village board began its Monday meeting with a moment of silence to honor the memory of Frank “Frankie” Amodio and James “Jimmy” DeMilo, two well-known village residents who passed away recently.

Amodio retired as a working leader in the village Department of Public Works (DPW). He was a longtime volunteer fireman with the Maybrook department. Village board members had nothing but praise for Amodio’s work and involvement with the community.

“Frankie was a hard-working, dedicated employee for many years in the village,” Mayor Dennis Leahy said, “and proud of his Maybrook heritage. Frankie wasn’t just an employee of the village; he was a friend who took pride in his village. He will be forever missed and always remembered by all who knew him.”

The Maybrook Fire Department will hold a special memorial service for Amodio 10 a.m., Sat., Aug. 3, at the fire house. There will be a contingent of Maybrook firefighters and police officers with a short procession to the fire house where a ceremony will be held. All residents are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

DeMilo was a long-time driver for Maybrook Taxi. He was an Army veteran and past commander of the Maybrook Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2064. Very active in veteran affairs, DeMilo was also a past president of the Orange County Veterans Coalition and served as trustee for the New York State Veterans.
