Tajir Walker had 21 rushes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the Newburgh Free Academy football team’s 28-17 loss to Middletown on Friday night at Academy Field in Newburgh.
Jun Rivas had two catches for 36 yards and a touchdown, while Mason Hoover completed nine passes for 114 yards. He was intercepted twice.
Matthew Patterson had seven tackles, while Cole Mullarkey, Christopher Leggett and Brayden Gonseth had six each.
The loss drops the Goldbacks to third place in Class AA with league games remaining against the Kingston Tigers and the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders, currently in first place.
The top four teams make the playoffs, scheduled to begin in November.
