Last Saturday, the Milton Engine Company hosted its annual lobster, clam and steak bake, drawing approximately 298 people.
Tickets were $100 and included a 1¼-pound lobster, carved steak, raw and steamed clams, corn on the cob, salad, and unlimited beer, soda and water.
Second Assistant Chief Matt Kneeter said the event began in the 1980s and was revived in 2008. The department plans to use proceeds to help fund a storage building on property it owns across the street from the firehouse and possibly pave the parking lot.
The department also supports the Milton Library and other local community events.
Kneeter thanked the department’s members for their work in organizing the event.
“We all come together and get this event going. They’re awesome and they got it done,” Kneeter said. “We’ve been doing this for so long that everybody knows what to do and it kind of runs itself.”
Kneeter said the department purchased 315 lobsters, 26 bushels of clams, 80 pounds of steak, 100 pounds of ground beef, 40 pounds of salad and three bushels of corn to feed the crowd.
Fire Chief Steve Rivieccio attributed the strong turnout in part to the department offering online ticket sales for the first time this year.
Rivieccio wished everyone a good time and thanked those who attended.
The band Blue Plate Special provided music during the afternoon. The group featured Genesee Rochetti on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Denice Hartmann on vocals and bass, Sal Santana on drums and John Ferro on lead guitar.
