Montgomery, Wallkill teams reach championship round

Two area teams reached the championship rounds of the District 19 Majors softball tournament last week, but both were eliminated on Thursday.

Four local teams took part in the tournament, and Montgomery advanced through the consolation side of Bracket B and Wallkill Area advanced through the consolation bracket of Bracket C.

Town of Wallkill was eliminated one win shy of getting to the championship rounds but fell in the last Bracket D game.

Pine Bush, who participated in Bracket B with Montgomery, went two-and-out.

Majors Bracket B
Otisville 11, Montgomery 6
Otisville scored five runs in the third inning, as Otisville won Bracket B with a win over Montgomery on June 17 at the Town of Newburgh.
Otisville scored five runs in the third inning to blow the game open.

Montgomery scored a run in the first, another run in the third and four in the sixth inning, as they fell to the consolation bracket.

Middletown 5, Pine Bush 4
Pine Bus scored two runs in the sixth inning, but their comeback attempt fell short as they were eliminated from the tournament by a loss to Middletown on June 17 at Otisville.
Pine Bush took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Middletown took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the first. Middletown added two more runs in the fourth inning.
Pine Bush had three hits.

Montgomery 9, Middletown 8
They needed all six innings to do it, but Montgomery staved off elimination on June 18 with a walk-off win over Middletown at the Town of Newburgh.
It was Montgomery’s second win over Middletown in three tournament games.
Middletown scored its first run in the second inning and then six more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
Montgomery answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the game. Middletown took the lead back in the seventh, setting up a game-tying hit by Lillian Cahill, who came around to score the winning run on an error.

Bracket C
Warwick 5, Wallkill Area 1
Wallkill Area fell to the consolation bracket with a loss to Warwick on June 17 at Middletown.
Warwick opened with two runs in the second inning and then added three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Wallkill Area scored its lone run in the fourth inning and managed only one hit. They made four errors.

Washingtonville 5
The Wallkill Panthers scored six runs in the fourth inning to take an early lead to eliminate Washingtonville from the tournament on Friday in Middletown.
Washingtonville answered with four runs in the third inning to pull to within three runs, but Wallkill opened a five-run lead in the sixth inning.

Bracket D

Goshen 27, Town of Wallkill 4
Goshen chased Town of Wallkill to the consolation bracket in a game that was called after three innings by the 10-run rule on June 17 at Pine Bush.
Goshen scored 18 runs in the first inning and then nine more in the second inning.
Town of Wallkill took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Minisink 19, Town of Wallkill 0

Town of Wallkill was eliminated from the tournament.

Championship
Monroe-Woodbury 8,
Wallkill Area 4
Wallkill Area had five more hits than Monroe-Woodbury but that didn’t translate onto the scoreboard as Monroe-Woodbury eliminated them on Thursday at the Town of Newburgh Little League Complex.

Monroe-Woodbury took an early 5-0 lead before Wallkill Area got on the board in the fourth inning. However, Monroe-Woodbury answered in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs to take a 7-1 lead.
Wallkill Area scored two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Minisink 7, Montgomery 6
Montgomery lost a two-run lead as Minisink scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to eliminate Montgomery from the tournament on Thursday at Memorial Park in Warwick.
Trailing 7-5 in the sixth inning, Montgomery got one run back in the top of the sixth inning but was unable to get the tying run on base.

Minisink took a 3-1 lead after the first inning, but Montgomery tied the game with single runs in the second and third innings. They took a 5-3 lead with two runs in the fourth inning.
