National Night Out at Highland Falls is Tuesday, August 6

The Highland Falls Police Department, West Point Military Police and Town of Highlands Police will be out in full force during National Night Out in Highland Falls on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The event will take place on West Point Highway in the vicinity of the West Point Visitor’s Center from 5-8 p.m. that evening. Main St. will remain open to traffic, and there is parking for the event on Main St., at the Visitor’s Center and in the municipal lot across from Sacred Heart Church.

In addition to police, local fire departments will participate, as will other governmental agencies like the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police, Orange County Stop DWI and others. Also participating will be local community groups and organizations, local schools and community businesses.
There is still room for more to join in the fun, HFPD Chief Jay Torpey said this week -- to do so, call the HFPD at 845-446-4911.

There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers, kids activities and giveaways (“our PBA has some bicycles to give away,” Torpey said).

People of all ages are invited to attend, Torpey added. “It’s not just an event for kids.”

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our community safer. It’s held the first Tuesday of August every year, across the country.
