New Paltz beats Highland in district championship

The Highland 12U Babe Ruth baseball team reached the championship game of the District 3 tournament on Thursday night, when a New Paltz batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting New Paltz to an 11-10 victory at the Highland Babe Ruth Field on Saturday.

Highland had tied the game at 10-10 in the top of the sixth inning on a base hit by Ryan Duffy.

New Paltz took an early 4-2 lead, but Highland rallied to take an 8-4 lead, their largest of the game. New Paltz tied the game at 9-9 in the fifth inning.

The Marlboro Marlins and Wallkill Wildcats split a doubleheader on June 18 at Young’s Park in Milton.

The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Marlins responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning of the first game. The Wildcats tied the game with two runs in the third before the Marlins scored on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the sixth.

The Wildcats led the second game 4-2 after three innings before, and then added one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to win the second game. The Marlins closed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the fifth, but Wallkill added three runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory and earn the split.

The Marlboro Marlins lost the first game on a walkoff and were routed in the second game as they were swept in a doubleheader by the DBI Cubs on June 18 at Dutchess Community college in Poughkeepsie.

The Marlins led the first game 6-5, heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Cubs plated two in the bottom of the inning to win the game. Marlboro led by two runs after two innings, but the Cubs came back to take a 5-4 lead after five innings.

The Marlins led 3-2 after the innings in the second game, but the Cubs took the lead for good in the fourth inning. They had another run in the fifth before putting the game away with an 11-run sixth inning.

The Marlboro Wildcats and Pine Bush Rebels split a doubleheader on June 18.

The Wildcats broke a 5-5 tie in the third inning and then added four runs in the fifth inning on their way to a win in the first game.

Liam Correa led the Wildcats with three hits and three RBIs.

Liam Tuttle had a hit and three RBIs for the Rebels.

The Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and post a three-run victory over the Wildcats in Game 2.
