New Windsor approves vehicle and traffic code changes

The New Windsor Town Board will seek to amend several Vehicle and Traffic Codes in the town in October. The code amendments will address concerns along Union Avenue and to add more signage to the Lafayette Ridge development.

Along Union Avenue, there is the town hall, residential areas and several businesses, as well as Heritage Middle School and Temple Hill Academy. With September 6 being the official start of the new school year, Town Supervisor George Meyers shared with the other board members that he had concerns regarding the parking of vehicles along Union Avenue and the traffic backup.

Union Avenue is currently listed as an Orange County roadway and according to Meyers, the town has reached out for assistance with this concern and the plan now is to include no parking signs along Union Avenue.

“We’re [New Windsor] now looking to them [Orange County] to put the no parking signs up,” said Meyers. “It’s a dangerous situation cause they back up on Union Avenue. When you get back towards town hall, there’s a curve there. And something’s going to happen eventually.”

In addition to the inclusion of no-parking signs, Meyers also made the board aware of adding stop signs down by the new development, Lafayette Ridge, which is a development under the ownership of Farrell Communities.
