With a long-range New Windsor Recreation Plan, the Town of New Windsor discussed potential permanent pickleball courts and basketball courts and hoops at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park, along with splash pads and other amenities.
According to New Windsor Town Supervisor George Meyers, a potential grant with a 50% match by the town was researched by MHE Engineering and the town potentially would be looking to apply for it. The specific grant would be coming from the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Office, according to Meyers.
For the splash pads, which has been a discussion between Councilwoman Eve Lincoln and Recreation Director Matt Veronesi, the updated prices have been requested by Veronesi whereas last year, prices for the splash pads were between $100,000 to $120,000. $100,000 additional would also go towards a potential treatment facility if the town looked to recycle the water for the splash pads according to Lincoln. The City of Newburgh has already built two splash pads for the community, which Veronesi has noted that the water is not recycled but goes to wastewater.
Town Supervisor Geroge Meyers requested from Veronesi and all those who expressed interest in the splash pads to review the long term plan and to get the cost figures for review.
