The Town of Newburgh-New Windsor Senior baseball all-stars found themselves beginning three wins away from a District 19 championship, despite losing to Middletown, 5-3, on June 20 in Pine Bush.

Newburgh-New Windsor All Stars win senior bracket opener

The Town of Newburgh-New Windsor Senior baseball all-stars found themselves beginning three wins away from a District 19 championship, despite losing to Middletown, 5-3, on June 20 in Pine Bush.

Newburgh, who had won their first two games, handedly fell behind 4-0 in the first inning to Middletown and couldn’t get the bats going until the seventh inning.

They scored three runs in the seventh but fell two runs short and were banished to the final game of the elimination bracket.

They were scheduled to open the week Sunday morning against Greenwood Lake, which fought back through the elimination bracket after losing their first game of the tournament to Cornwall.

Middletown awaited the winner of Sunday morning’s game on Monday. Newburgh would need to beat Greenwood Lake and Middletown twice to win the championship.

Town of Newburgh-New Windsor continued to win on June 19 with a rout of Wallkill Area in Pine Bush.

Town of Newburgh-New Windsor suffered its first defeat of the tournament on June 20 when Luis Pagan struggled in the first inning allowing four runs in Pine Bush.

Town of Newburgh-New Windsor scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh inning and had the tying run on second base when the game ended.

James Tobin doubled and scored a run, while Bryce Profiro singled and scored on a wild pitch. Mike Bonura walked and scored Town of Newburgh-New Windsor’s first run.

Rockland Elite Knights 6, Newburgh Red Storm 4

The Newburgh Red Storm led the Rockland Elite by three runs after four innings, but the Elite tied the game with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take the lead for good. They tacked on one more in the seventh.

The Red Storm scored a single run in the first and second and then added two in the fourth.

The Newburgh Red Storm scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but stranded the tying run on second base in a loss to the Black Dirt Barnstormers.

The Red Storm fell behind 6-2 after the first two innings and trailed by four heading into the seventh inning.

Malcolm Dillehay threw six innings of shutout baseball, allowing only three hits with eight strikeouts as the Red Storm dominated the Tigers in Game 1 on their way to a doubleheader sweep on June 18.

Mike Arroyo singled, doubled and drove in three runs in Game 1.

Jackson Bradley threw three innings of shutout relief in the second game to give the Red Storm an opportunity for a comeback victory. Jon VanVlak gave the Red Storm the lead with a two-run single.

Luis Pagan threw five innings of shutout ball as the Newburgh Red Storm picked up a win in Game 1 on their way to a doubleheader split on Saturday in Shrub Oak.

Edwin Nunez threw two innings of relief with four strikeouts and also had a hit and a run scored. Liam Clark doubled and tripled twice.

Newburgh fell behind 4-1 in the second game and Shrub Oak held off a fifth-inning rally to win a one-run game in the nightcap.

The Red Storm were held to two hits and made five errors in the field as they were routed by the Eastchester Eagles on the road in a game that was called after four innings due to the 15-run rule.
