Newburgh Red Storm sweeps Stamford

Local teams began to cruise toward the end of the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League regular season last week.

The regular season is scheduled to end Wednesday with the playoffs to begin this week and conclude next week.

Wallkill Wildcats 8, Hudson Valley Select 7

The Wallkill Wildcats scored five times in the sixth inning to pull out a win over the Hudson Valley Select on Thursday at New Windsor Little League.

After a 1-1 first inning, the Select scored three in the second inning to take the lead. Wallkill closed the gap to one run in the third, but the Select added three in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.

Mahopac Wolves 10, Hudson Valley Select 3
The Mahopac Wolves erased a 2-0 Hudson Valley Select first-inning lead with four runs in the first inning and then added two more in the second to take control on their way to a win over the Hudson Valley Select on Saturday in Mahopac.

The Select added a run in the fifth inning.

The Wolves scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and added two in the fifth.

Newburgh Knights 4, Wheelhouse Marauders 3
The Newburgh Knights built a two-run lead after the first two innings and held on for a victory over the Wheelhouse Marauders on Wednesday in Cornwall.
The Knights never trailed in the game after taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Wheelhouse Marauders 7, Newburgh Knights 3
The Wheelhouse Marauders scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the third inning to post a win over the Newburgh Knights on Thursday at the Cornwall Little League Complex.

The Knights scored a run in the second inning and then added two more in the fifth.

Newburgh Knights 12, Naturals White 11
The Newburgh Knights won a back-and-forth game with the Naturals White on Friday at the New Windsor Little League Complex.

The Knights took the lead for good after a six-run second inning gave them a 10-8 lead. They added two more runs in the fourth to take a 12-9 lead.

The Newburgh Red Storm scored six runs in the second inning on their way to a win over the Beacon Bulldogs on Wednesday at Memorial Park in Beacon.

The Red Storm also scored single runs in the first and sixth innings.

Black Dirt Barnstormers 9, Newburgh Red Storm 4
The Black Dirt Barnstormers scored two runs in the first inning and then added four more in the second inning to take an early lead in a win over the Newburgh Red Storm on Thursday in Chester.

Both teams scored a single run in the fourth inning and the Red Storm added three more in the top of the fifth inning.

Ben Gould doubled and drove in three runs as the Newburgh Red Storm routed the Naturals Blue on Wednesday at Delano-Hitch Stadium.

Malcolm Dillehay had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. John Reily had a hit and an RBI. He also scored two runs.

Four Newburgh pitchers combined for the shutout.

The Newburgh Red storm scored an 11-run win over Mahopac on Wednesday in Carmel.

Pine Plains 4, Newburgh Red Storm 3

An error on a fielder’s choice gave Pine Plains a walk-off win in the eighth inning on Saturday in Pine Plains.

The Red Storm entered the seventh inning trailing by two runs but tied the game at 3-3 on an RBI groundout by Omar Puello and Ryan Andryuk’s RBI single. Isaiah Vargas delivered an RBI single in the first inning.

Newburgh Red Storm 11, Patterson Pirates 1
The Newburgh Red Storm rode a seven-run seventh inning to 10-run win over the Patterson Pirates on Wednesday in Patterson.

Noel Martinez had three hits and two RBIs and Gio Tirado doubled, scored a run and drove in three. Vic Alicea had two hits, a run scored and two RBIs. Jo Alicea sparked the offense with a hit, an RBI and three runs scored.

Liam Lynch went the distance allowing a run in the second inning and struck out seven.

Newburgh Red Storm 7, Stamford Thunder 5
Nick Shala had two hits, including a home run and finished with four RBIs in the first game. Jackson Mitterbauer doubled and drove in two runs. Shala threw 5 1/3 innings.

The Red Storm rebounded from a two-run deficit in the fourth inning, putting up a five spot in a Game 2 win for the sweep. Shala had two more hits, including a double and drove in four runs. Aidan Talsma had a hit and two RBIs.

A.J. Grant went six innings for the win with seven strikeouts.
