Most of the Newburgh Free Academy track and field qualifiers had done so before entering the Section 9 New York State qualifying meet on Thursday and Friday at New Paltz High School and Goshen High School, respectively.

While all the members of the Goldbacks’ 1,600-meter relay team of Anthony Barrett, Anthony Burnett, David Pinnock and Brady Danyluk were qualified individually already, they weren’t qualified as a team.

They changed that on the last day of Friday’s meet winning the race with a time of 3:17.41 and meeting the state at-large standard, qualifying them as a unit for the New York State Federation meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School in Syracuse.

Barrett finished second in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles, qualifying for the state meet by meeting the at-large standard when he ran a 14.75. Burnett qualified for the state meet on Friday when he ran a 14.73 in the preliminaries, meeting the state super standard.

Burnett and Barrett previously qualified for the state meet when they met the state super standard in the boys’ 400-meter hurdles with runs of 54.44 and 55.05, respectively. They finished 19th and 20th respectively with times of 1:09.87 and 1:11.48 at the state qualifier.

Pinnock previously qualified in the 400-meter dash, meeting the state super standard with a time of 48.64 seconds. He finished 34th on Saturday with a time of 58.66.

Brady Danyluk previously qualified for the state championships in the 800-meter dash, having met the state super standard when he ran a season-best 1:52.79. He finished 33rd at the state qualifiers with a time of 2:06.71.
