PB’s Galloway wins state pole vault title

Pine Bush’s Ella Galloway clinched a state championship in the pole vault at Friday’s and Saturday’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Faller Field in Middletown.

Galloway won the championship with a height of 12-6. Her two closest competitors – Amelia McBain of Saratoga Springs and Rachel Venter of Warwick – cleared 12-3.

Galloway’s teammate Madison Williams finished second in the Division 1 long jump, reaching 18-8, matching the best jump by Webster Schroeder’s Camry Cole. However, Cole’s second-best jump was 18-6 to Williams’ 18-4.25, giving Cole the tiebreaker and the state championship.

She came back on Saturday to finish second in the combined long jump, reaching 18-8.75, once again behind Cole, who jumped a 19-8.

Williams finished third in the Division I triple jump with a reach of 39-1.75. She also returned Saturday to finish third in the combined championship heat on Saturday with a jump of 38-11.

Shaylen Goslar finished 13th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:39.73.

Valley Central’s Catherine Primavera was 15th in the girls’ Division I 200-meter dash with a time of 25.93 seconds.

Boys
Pine Bush’s Plexico Brooks finished in a three-way tie for eighth place in the high jump, clearing 6-4.

James Michael Vizzari was 11th in the Division I 400-meter dash with a time of 49.92 seconds. Lavon James was 48th with a time of 11.47 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

Elijah Cruz was 10th in the Division I shot put with a throw of 41.7.50, and Joshua Dymond was 13th in the Division I discus with a throw of 128-6.
