Pine Bush edges closer to district softball crown

The Pine Bush Seniors softball team put itself in position to win a District flag last week.

The team, which won the District flag last summer opened the tournament with a big win over Washingtonville before being banished to the elimination bracket by Warwick.

They rebounded from that loss with a win over neighboring Wallkill Valley and were scheduled to face Warwick again in the first of two possible championship games against Warwick.

Pine Bush would have needed a victory on Sunday and then another on Monday to win their second straight District 19 championship.

Wallkill Area had reached the championship game in the Juniors division, but were beaten by Middletown on Thursday.

Warwick 14, Pine Bush 7

Pine Bush fell to the elimination bracket with a loss to Warwick on June 20 in Cornwall.

The game was tied at 4-4 after two innings, but Warwick scored seven runs over the next three innings to take an 11-7 lead before tacking on three more in the top of the seventh to put the game even further out of reach.

Elizabeth Metcalfe tripled and drove in three runs. Natalie Longobardo had two hits, including a double and drove in two runs. Kailey Langdon doubled and drove in a run.

Pine Bush 14, Wallkill Area 4
Meaghan Wishinski had three hits including a home run and finished the game with four RBIs as Pine Bush clinched their berth in the championship game with a win over Wallkill Area.

They needed to beat Warwick twice on Sunday and Monday to win the championship.

Elizabeth Metcalfe added a hit and two RBIs. Jordyn Wilson struck out six batters in five innings.
