District administrators outlined goals for improving the learning paths of elementary school students at the October 13 meeting of the Pine Bush school board.
They introduced the following vision: A community where every individual becomes a passionate, engaged learner who listens with empathy, works collaboratively, takes ownership of their learning, and leads others in making a positive impact.
The district’s goals include inspiring curiosity (creating ownership of learning); ensuring every voice is heard (fostering intellectual safety and empowering confident expression); and building teamwork (creating strong relationships leading to purposeful collaboration).
During the public comment period, several people spoke on transportation issues. Betsy Abraham and Gary Ross asked the board to reconsider a recent change of the dropoff location for Lil’ Buds Childcare and Preschool in the Town of Wallkill. They said that the new dropoff location requires children to walk on a hazardous section Blumel Road. Ross is the father of the owner of the preschool.
Helen Chillingworth asked the board to provide transportation for her grandson who lives with her. She said a school bus picks up several students near her home.
The board extended the contract of Superintendent Joseph Lenz who was once again sworn in.
In honor of School Board Appreciation Week, Lenz thanked the board for its efforts and dedication to students.
The board will next meet October 27.
