Pine Bush schools to form cell phone policy committee

Noting the difficulty of forming a cell phone policy committee over the summer, the Pine Bush school board agreed to do so in late September, at its May 28 meeting.

School Superintendent Brian Dunn said he would immediately start publicizing the effort to recruit a committee of various stakeholders through the district website. He said the committee would be working on why the district needs such a policy and how it would be implemented.

Board president Gretchen Meier requested that the board look into how the district can deal with vaping and illicit drugs. The board agreed to address it at the June 11 meeting.

Assistant Superintendent for Business Joseph Lenz thanked the community for supporting the 2024-25 school budget. He said that he will present capital projects for the public’s approval next February-March. The projects will be based on the recent building condition survey that New York State requires.

Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Amy Brockner discussed the district’s summer programs. She said that the high school credit recovery program is still looking for science teachers. She said that she is looking into alternative ways of helping students to retake regents exams in the summer.

In his report, Dunn thanked school board members Matt Watkins and Ross Tompkins, who lost in the May 22 election, for their many years of service to the community. “I will miss working with you,” Dunn said. Dunn welcomed newly elected board members Peter Agro and Shauna Best.

The board will next meet on June 11.
