The Pine Bush School District unveiled its new logo last week, which was created by senior Roy Frausto.
The logo features the Shawangunk mountains and Pine Bush spelled out in blue and gold letters. Frausto was the winner in a district-wide competition with 70 submissions ranging from classic design to those featuring the bushman and even UFOs.

“We received more entries than we ever imagined,” Mains said. “I was gratified by the interest our students showed in our district.”

Superintendent Tim Mains announced the competition in 2018. The media arts class at the high school scored all the entries and narrowed them down to the group that would be submitted to a professional designer from Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). Four finalists received feedback from the designers and refined their original designs.

Frausto said the inspiration for the design comes from his love of the beautiful backdrop he sees on his way into school.

“When I come to school every day, the first thing I see are the mountains and I wanted to incorporate that,” Frausto said.

Frausto said he learned to take pride in his work through the project.

He plans to enter State University of New York (SUNY) Orange to study criminal justice after graduation. He wants to develop a career in law enforcement.

In addition to Frausto, there were three other student finalists: Todd Jones, Cameron Cheatham and Aidan Kane. Each received a pair of headphones. Frausto received an iPad Air.

Jones also attended the ceremony, where his logo—students standing together under the high school entrance—was displayed. He said he wanted to show students, teachers and the community coming together to support each other.

Jones is currently a student at Orange County Community College and studies visual communication and graphic design. Jones said he would like to someday work in comics and animation, and Stan Lee is his inspiration.

The logo will soon be used on the district website, in communications and on apparel.

“This logo will now be used on everything Pine Bush,” Mains said.
