Plattekill Day is a hit

At the heart of Plattekill Day is the annual Citizen of the Year Award. But this year there were three couples who were so honored.

Supervisor Michael Lembo read a proclamation: “This year we recognize six truly remarkable people of our community, Pastor Phil and Jean Johnson; Peter and Jean Larose and Laurie Martin and Jim Lovesio have devoted countless hours of their lives to helping others. Much of what they do happens quietly and behind the scenes without recognition or receiving anything in return. They are being recognized for their outstanding character, dedication and commitment to our community. Each of these couples have tirelessly volunteered to help residents and to help make our community a better place. Their commitment, compassion, generosity and willingness to serve are examples of what makes a community strong. Today we are proud to recognize all six of them as the 2026 Town of Plattekill Citizens of the Year Award.”

Laurie Martin and Jim Lovesio were not in attendance as they were visiting Ireland.

The festivities stretched across the Thomas Felton Park with a touch-a-truck event, a bounce house and slide, an obstacle course, live music by the Mustangs, a K9 and drone demonstration, a car show, face painting and local vendors.

Food offerings included burgers, tacos, fries and lemonade. Families also had opportunities to explore trucks and other vehicles.
