Rotary golf tourney to raise funds for fire safety equip

The Highland Rotary Club is hosting a golf outing at Apple Green’s Golf Course on Friday, May 12 to raise funds to assist with the purchase of updated safety equipment for the local volunteer firefighters at the Highland Fire District.

In addition to enjoying 18 holes of golfing on the beautiful Apple Greens’ course, opportunities to participate in a host of contests with some phenomenal prizes will be available throughout the event, including a $100,000 Shootout for four lucky participants, a putting contest with a guaranteed prize of a seven-night resort stay, Hole-in-One contests on all par 3 holes, as well as long drive and closest to the pin competitions for both men and women.

“Ensuring the safety of our firefighters is a top priority, and we accomplish it through training, policies and procedures, and the availability and proper use of effective personal protective equipment,” says Peter Miller, chief of the Highland Fire District. The safety equipment, he says, needs to be replaced regularly to ensure it meets industry standards, and it is very expensive. He’s appreciative of the Highland Rotarians’ efforts to help ensure the resources are available to make this possible.

“Our brave volunteer firefighters respond day and night to fires, health emergencies, car accidents and countless other situations,” said Steve Laubach, Highland Rotary Club president-elect and chair of the committee responsible for planning the golf tournament. “They don’t get paid, they don’t look for praise and they put their lives on the line to help us when we need them most. Our Rotary Club is happy to support this worthwhile cause.”

As an added treat for those who enjoy a fine cigar, the Mobile Cigar Lounge will be on hand to roll golfers a perfect cigar, courtesy of our generous sponsors Emery & Webb Insurance and Broadridge (must be at least 21 years old). The Mobile Cigar Lounge is a veteran-owned and operated company with a mission to make every event they attend a memorable one. Learn more about them at themobilecigarlounge.com.

Golfers can register for the tournament by visiting highlandrotarygolf.com. A foursome is $600 and includes 18-holes, a golf cart, lunch, dinner, and an awards reception. Single golfers are welcome to register.

The event’s title sponsor is JSP Home Services, a family owned and operated plumbing and HVAC company in Kingston. In addition to JSPs top tier sponsorship, another 14 local businesses made considerable donations as second level corporate sponsors, including Accent Insurance Services, LLC; Barone Construction; Broadridge; Emery & Webb Insurance, Hoffman Equipment; Integrity Mechanical, Inc.; Levine & Levine, PLLC; M & T Bank; Mark Mahoney Insurance and Financial Services; Rossi Builders; Schain and Company CPA; ServPro of Kingston/New Paltz; Smiles of the Hudson Valley; and Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan. A host of other supports will be featured at the event.

“We are so appreciative of the outpouring of support for this cause from businesses in the community,” said Laubach.

Check-in and the qualifying round for the putting contest begins at 9:30 a.m. A shotgun start will kick off the tournament at 11 a.m. Apple Greens is located at 161 South Street, Highland, NY. For more information, contact Steve Laubach at 914-456-5148 or visit highlandrotarygolf.com.
