Shooting reported on Lander Street

One dead; one critically wounded

On April 24, at approximately 8:40 a.m., City of Newburgh Police responded to the area of Lander and Farrington Streets for a shooting incident. 

Responding Officers located two victims. One victim was deceased upon arrival. The other victim was transported to St Luke's Hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. 

The two victims were reported to be employees of RUPCO, an affordable housing not-for-profit organization. 

"With a heavy heart, RUPCO regrets reporting that two of our team members were shot this morning on Lander St in Newburgh. Shane Lawrence was killed, and Richard Herring remains in the hospital," the organization reported in a statement released on social media. "The entire RUPCO team is saddened by this tragic event, as we turn now to offer support to the victim's families as well as to each other. One of our colleagues is no longer here and another faces a daunting recovery. Our deepest sympathies go out to their loved ones during this devastating time."
