Summer season under way

The summer baseball season kicked off last week with the beginning of Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League Play.

Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League teams will play for most of June and July with the playoffs scheduled to begin the last week of July and end during the first weekend in August.

There are four divisions in age groups, ranging from 9U to college age.

Most local teams are in Divisions 3 or 4 in their age groups.

9U Division 4
Hudson Valley Storm One 16, Hudson Valley Storm Two 3
Hudson Valley Storm One 26, Hudson Valley Storm Two 4
It was the battle of Hudson Valley Storm teams on June 9 when Storm 1 swept Storm 2 in a doubleheader at the New Windsor Little League Field.

Storm 1 scored nine runs in the third inning to take the first game and scored nine runs each in the third and fourth innings of the second game to post the victory.

10U Division 4
PB Rebels 2, Black Dirt Barnstormers 1
The Pine Bush Rebels got scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning and allowed only one in the bottom of the inning to edge the Black Dirt Barnstormers on June 9.

Two Rebels pitchers combined or a no-hitter.

Pine Bush Rebels 20, Kent White Sox 8
The Pine Bush Rebels scored in every inning except the fourth in a 12-run win over the Kent White Sox in Carmel.

The Rebels opened with five runs in the first and three more in the second before the White Sox got on the board. The White Sox closed to 11-8 before the Rebels scored nine runs over the fifth and sixth innings to end the game.

Blue Sox 10, Pine Bush Rebels 0
The Rebels were limited to one hit and made five errors in a loss to the Blue Sox on Saturday in Port Jervis.

The Blue Sox scored three runs in each of the first, second and fourth innings. They added one run in the third. The game was called after four innings due to the 10-run rule.

11U Division 3
Wallkill Panthers 12, Marauders 2
The Wallkill Panthers took the lead for good with two runs in the first inning and another five in the second in a four-inning win over the Wheelhouse Marauders on June 9.

New Paltz Knights 11, Wallkill Panthers 4

The Panthers fell behind early on Wednesday in a loss to the New Paltz Knights.

The Knights got on the board with three runs in the first inning. The Panthers answered with two in the bottom of the first. However, the Knights added three more in the top of the second and two more in the fourth to take a six-run lead.

The Panthers added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

12U Crossover

Marlboro Marlins 14, Pine Bush Rebels Blue 6
The Marlboro Marlins rode a six-run fourth inning to a victory over the Pine Bush Rebels Blue on June 9 at Pine Bush Town Park.

The Marlins took the lead for good in the top of the first, and after the Rebels scored a run in the bottom of the inning, the Marlins offense scored nine runs over the next three innings to take control of the game, leading 11-1, heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Rebels staved off the 10-run rule by scoring a run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth.

12U Division 4

PB Rebels White 23, Hudson Valley Hustle 7
The Pine Bush Rebels White swept the Hudson Valley Hustle at Pine Bush Town Park on June 9.

The Rebels scored seven runs in the fourth inning of the first game to end it after four innings due to the 10-run rule. One Pine Bush pitcher threw four no-hit innings.

The Rebels won another lopsided game to finish the doubleheader sweep. The Rebels scored nine runs each in the first and third innings, and then added five more in the fourth. The Hustle scored runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

14U Division 3
Poughkeepsie Vikings 5, Wallkill Panthers 0
The Poughkeepsie Vikings scored four runs in the fourth inning and limited the Wallkill Panthers to two hits in a win on June 9 at Wallkill Area Little League.

Gavin Usewicz and Hayden Andrews each had a hit for the Panthers.

Wallkill Panthers 4, Pine Bush Rebels 1

A.J. Santacroce had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs, leading the Wallkill Panthers to a win over the Pine Bush Rebels on Saturday.

Hayden Andrews doubled and drove in a run for the Panthers.

David Vega, Robbie Cummings, Layne Kulynych, and Vincenzo Rubino each had a hit for the Rebels. Cummings drove in their lone run.

Mid-Hudson River Dogs 5, HV Storm One 3
HV Storm One 9, Mid-Hudson River Dogs 7

Hudson Valley Storm 1 split a doubleheader with the Mid-Hudson River Dogs on June 9 at Aldrich Point at Aldrich Park in Salt Point.

Tyler Preciado hit a two-run double for the River Dogs. Elijah Strother, Lucas Algarin and Jake Bione each had an RBI for the Storm.

Bione and Bryce Foster each had two hits for the Storm in a second-game win over the River Dogs. Foster and Noah Cheney each had two RBIs. Edwin Nunez got the win, allowing five runs on four hits over four innings. He struck out six batters.

HV Storm One 16, Brewster Green Crush 6
The Hudson Valley Storm scored 11 runs in the first inning in a win over the Brewster Green Crush on Wednesday in Brewster.

Edwin Nunez stole eight bases and had two hits with three runs scored and an RBI. J.J. Alicea had two RBIs and a run scored. Danny Cuello got the win on the mound, while Elijah Strother scored twice, drove in a run and stole five bases. Bryce Foster scored a run, had an RBI and pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

14U Division 4
Bethel Wildcats 18, HV Storm Two 6
The Bethel Wildcats scored 11 runs in the third inning to power their way to a win over the Hudson Valley Storm (2) on Thursday.

Matt Gingold led the Storm with three hits and two RBIs. Ryan Ferraro drove in four runs for the Wildcats.

15U Division 3

Pine Bush Rebels 11, Hudson Valley Storm 2
The Hudson Valley Storm 1 and Pine Bush Rebels split a doubleheader on June 9 at Pine Bush Town Park. Tyler Ostrander got the Storm on the board with a two-run single in the second inning. James Rogers, Anthony Forzano and Conor Kelly each had a hit for the Torm.

Lewis Connor led the Rebels with three hits and Cody Vanoyan and two. The Rebels turned two double plays.

The Rebels took the second game on the back of a big third inning that saw them score six runs. Cody Hanson drove in three runs for the Rebels and Forzano had a hit and an RBI for the Storm.

High School/Legion Division 4
Sailors 12, Hudson Valley Storm Two 2
The Sailors broke a tie in the second inning and then added five more runs in the third inning in a win over the Hudson Valley Storm (2) on Wednesday in Cortlandt.

Andrew Hollo singled home a run for the Storm and Niko Mandich had three hits. Hollo and Julian Butcher each had an RBI. C.J. Bobell, who missed the varsity season due to leukemia treatments, played two innings at first base.

CT Kings 8, Hudson Valley Storm Two 6
Hudson Valley Storm (2) 4, CT Kings 1
The Hudson Valley Storm (2) split a doubleheader with the CT Kings on Saturday in New Milford, Conn.
The Storm outhit the Kings in the first game, despite suffering a two-run loss. Anthony Daley, Julian Butcher, John Kelly and Mikey Daley had two hits each for the storm.

Mikey Daley had two hits and two RBIs in the second game as the Storm salvaged a split. Lucas Adach had two hits for the Storm. Kody Best got the win on the mound.
