“Among the pitfalls in our way,
The best of us walk blindly;
So, man, be wary, watch and pray,
And judge your brother kindly.”
- Alice Cary (1820-1871)

There are no words strong enough to express the sorrow that our southern states have been suffering, and the pain they are enduring due to the havoc of weather gone wild.  Families are cut to the heart with grief at the great loss of their loved ones, their precious memories, their homes, and their businesses.  We are praying that communities somehow find comfort and hope in the midst of these tragedies.  We are praying that emergency workers and volunteers have the strength and fortitude to continue helping those most in need.  May God bless you all.

During Fire Prevention Week, eager little children from Tots-N-Us hung on to every word of the Dan Leghorn Engine Company Orange Lake’s true heroes: firefighters.  On a brisk, autumn day, they donned bright red plastic hats and gathered around, and they learned about Fire Safety Tips and how to be heroes themselves.  The firefighters put together a fabulous educational program with the focus on how to be prepared in case of a fire in your home, starting with the importance of a fire-safety plan for evacuation and to practice it regularly.

Children as young as toddlers are taught to stop, drop to the floor because smoke rises, and roll if they are ever in a situation where there is a fire.  Once out never go back into the house.  The young fire-fighters were given a packet of Fire Safety Tips to bring home and share the importance of fire safety to all the members in their family, and to keep reading about fire safety.  Kudos to our courageous Fire-fighter Heroes who keep us safe!
