Town reviews plans for a new rec center

Posted

MHE Engineering, D.P.C. returned before the Newburgh Town Board last month with updated site plans and building renderings for the boards’ review and consideration for a town recreation center.

Last October, MHE Engineering, represented by Michael Lamoreaux, presented to the board the initial concept of a recreational center at Chadwick Lake Park.

The recreation center has been proposed to be built where the former ice hockey rink is located on the park property that has been underutilized for the past several years.

Since the October meeting, the major change to the building was the removal of the second floor which would have included a second floor running track. With the removal of the second floor, it reduces costs to the overall project, according to Lamoreaux.

With the removal of the second floor, the building has added extra square footage bringing it to the total amount of 39,800 square feet according to MHE.

The new site plans and renderings presented to the board propose a one story multi-purpose recreation center. The building would include an indoor walking track, multi-purpose workout rooms, multi-purpose field, several basketball courts, and a children’s room.

Additional offices, storage spaces for the recreation department and bathroom area would be built into the building.

Additional costs and renderings will be reviewed and coordinated with MHE and the town.
