Valley Central runners earn split, Wallkill girls win

Caleb Sahlstrom finished first in the boys’ race, as the Valley Central boys’ cross-country teams split with the Monticello Panthers and Kingston Tigers on October 3 at Valley Central High School in Montgomery.
 
The Vikings beat the Panthers, 21-36, but lost to the Tigers, 22-38.
 
Eddie Salinas was Monticello’s top finisher with a time of 18:11, and Will Hack was Kingston’s top runner with a time of 19:13. Sahlstrom finished with a time of 17:44.
 
Vance Palmer was sixth for the Vikings, with Ashton Ewald and Isaiah Tejada taking ninth and 13th respectively.  James Quinn was 14th.
The girls’ team was beaten by Monticello 21-39 and Kingston, 17-41.
 
Hazel Lewis won the girls’ race in 21:58.25 as Kingston took the top three spots. Diya Patel was Monticello’s top finisher with a time of 23:08.89. 
Laura Griffin finished seventh in 24:04.34 to lead the Vikings. Emily Griffin finished eighth and Grace Burns was 15th. Leah Restivo and Isabella Cruz were 17th and 18th respectively.

Wallkill girls win, boys lose 
Caitlin Murphy won the girls’ race with a time of 19:10.18, leading the Wallkill girls’ cross country team to a 24-31 win over the FDR Presidents on Wednesday.
 
Andie Psilopoulos was second with Emma Haughian taking fifth place and Maria Morales finishing sixth. Katrina Brand finished 10th.
 
Olivia Wayne took third for the Presidents.
 
FDR’s Thomas Hurley won the boys’ race, leading the Presidents to a 17-44 win over Wallkill. Mario Verruto finished fifth in 17:53.61 to pace the Panthers. Nathaniel Diemoz took sixth place. Josh Craypo was 11th and Ryder Kilpatrick finished 12th. Luke Fragetta was 20th.
