Wildcats split, Expos win two games

The Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League summer league season opened last week for several teams based out of Marlboro.

The youngest Marlboro Marlins struggled early against various opponents, while the 14U Marlboro Wildcats split a pair of games.

The Marlboro Expos 16U team won two games last week.

Hudson Valley Hawks 15, Marlboro Marlins 2
The Marlboro Marlins opened the summer season with a loss to the Hudson Valley Hawks in Washingtonville.

East Fishkill Patriots 8, Marlboro Marlins 3
Ray Melendez had two hits and an RBI in the Marlboro Marlins’ summer-opening loss to the East Fishkill Patriots at Young’s Field in Milton on June 11. The Patriots opened the game with a run in the first inning and then added four in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

The Marlins got their first run on Melendez’s double and added two runs in the seventh inning.

The Marlboro Marlins opened their season with a doubleheader sweep on June 11 to the Patterson Pirates at Young’s Field.

The Marlboro Wildcats fell to 1-1 with a loss to the New York Knights on June 11.

Marlboro Wildcats 10, Rockland Elite 9
Two balks in the seventh inning led the Marlboro Wildcats to a 2-run seventh inning in a win over the Rockland Elite on Thursday.

Aiden Douglas led the Wildcats with three hits, including a double and an RBI. Liam Keller singled and drove in two runs. Liam Correa tripled and drove in two runs.
Shawn Delaigle and Colin Weckman each had two hits and an RBI. Meyer Baker had two hits.

Marlboro Expos 6, Pine Plains 2
Aidan Hartwell had a hit and an RBI, and a run scored as the Marlboro Expos opened the season with a win over Pine Plains at home.

He also allowed two runs on four hits over five innings with two strikeouts.

Conner Griffin walked and scored a run. Jack Schlagler had a hit and an RBI. Leland Dubois hit a double.

Marlboro Expos 8, Newburgh Red Storm 3
Aidan Hartwell had two hits and four RBIs, leading the Expos over the Red Storm.

The Expos took control with a three-run first inning, and then tacked on three more in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Justin Piscopo pitched five innings, allowing three hits and struck out six. He also had two hits.

Michael Edge had a hit and an RBI for the Red Storm. Brandon Mabey also singled home a run.
