On September 8, at the Orange County Democratic Committee’s annual Making Strides Gala, held at City Winery in Montgomery, Cornwall Supervisor Josh Wojehowski was honored with the ‘Elected Leader of the Year’ award from the Committee.
The supervisor said didn’t know he was up for the award until he was notified about a week before the event that he would be receiving it. Wojehowski, 41, said he was honored, and said the work that has been done in Cornwall which led to him receiving the award was only possible because of the hard work of the Town Hall staff, and his fellow Town Board members.
He said he’s learned through his years in public service to work in a non-partisan manner.
“I am willing to work with anyone who wants to help Cornwall,” he said. “There is no way to take care of everything that needs done by yourself.”
Orange County Democratic Party Chairman Zach Constantine presented him with the award.
From the program: “Josh Wojehowski, a lifelong Cornwall resident and small business owner, has dedicated his career to public service and community development. After a successful tenure in New York City government and nonprofit leadership, he returned to Cornwall and, in 2019, was elected to the Town Council. Two years later, he successfully challenged an incumbent to become Town Supervisor, bringing much-needed change and revitalization to the community.
“Since taking office in 2022, Josh has focused on smart economic development, Main Street revitalization, and addressing critical infrastructure issues. Under his leadership, Cornwall has adopted bipartisan budgets, improved emergency services, and secured funding for projects that enhance the town’s resiliency to climate change and severe weather. Josh’s commitment to transforming Cornwall into a vibrant, business-friendly town while protecting its natural resources has earned him widespread respect.
“With a deep-rooted passion for his community, Josh continues to lead with a solutions-oriented approach, ensuring Cornwall remains a thriving, resilient place for future generations.”
In attendance at the event were Town Councilwomen Virginia Scott and Rokhsha Michael-Razi, and Cornwall Democratic Party Chair Barbara Smith. It was also attended by Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Pat Ryan, Senator James Skoufis and Assemblyman Chris Eachus, among others.
