Join the 14th Annual ‘Clean Sweep’ Wallkill Weekend
Get ready to roll up your sleeves and make a difference in your community! The 14th Annual “Clean Sweep” Wallkill Weekend is back, and volunteers of all ages are invited to join forces for a day of environmental stewardship and community pride. Organized by dedicated community members, this annual event aims to clean up Wallkill’s river and roads, ensuring a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful hometown for all to enjoy.
Volunteers are encouraged to gather at the Wallkill Library on Saturday, April 13, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. to participate in the main event. Equipped with orange bags and enthusiasm, volunteers will work together to clean up the streets near their homes, as well as the Wallkill River, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all.
Rain date is Sunday, April 14.
Additional Details:
• Kayakers and boaters are needed - please call in advance to coordinate.
• Light refreshments will be available to keep volunteers energized and hydrated.
• Volunteers can continue to Clean Sweep throughout the weekend by bringing bagged garbage to town trucks at Popp’s Pavilion or the police station. Supplies and forms will be available at the town clerk’s office on Friday, April 12th, or at the event on Saturday, April 13th, on the library lawn and at the kayak launch at Popp’s Pavilion.

Important Note: This is a community activity and is not a Wallkill Central School District function. However, students can earn community service hours for volunteering if they have a permission slip completed by a parent or guardian.
OC Conservatives to honor past chair
The Orange County Conservative Party will have their annual Spring Reception on April 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Otterkill Country Club, 100 Otter Road, Campbell Hall. Pints & Paws benefit the Walden Humane Society
Calling all animal lovers and community members! Get ready to wag your tails and raise funds for our furry friends at the Humane Society of Walden! We are thrilled to announce “Pints & Paws for a Cause,” a fun-filled charity event aimed at supporting the noble efforts of the Humane Society in their mission to care for animals in need.
Hosted by Big Dogs Brewery at 771 State Route 52, Walden on April 14, from noon to 4 p.m., this event promises a delightful array of activities for both two-legged and four-legged attendees alike.
Highlights of the Event Include:
• Food Trucks: Indulge in mouthwatering delights from various food trucks offering BBQ, tacos, Greek cuisine, and more!
• Win Prizes: Participate in exciting raffles and stand a chance to win amazing prizes!
• Pawsome Activities: Engage in a variety of fun activities such as bobbing for bones and paw-tastic painting.
• Pup-arazzi Photo Booth: Strike a pose with your furry friends and capture memorable moments with our pup-arazzi!
• Big Dogs Brewery: Enjoy refreshing beverages from Big Dogs Brewery, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of Walden.
• Leashed Dogs Welcomed: Bring along your furry companions to join in the fun! Dogs must be leashed for the safety and comfort of all attendees.
• Entry Fee: A nominal $5 entry fee will be collected, with all proceeds donated to the Humane Society of Walden to support their essential work.
In addition to the festivities, on April 21, Montgomery Veterinary Hospital will be hosting an exclusive event at Big Dogs Brewery, continuing the spirit of compassion and care for our animal friends.

Maybrook VFW to host Spaghetti & Meatball Dinner Dance
The Maybrook Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is excited to announce its upcoming Spaghetti & Meatball Dinner Dance, set to take place on Saturday, April 20, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Maybrook VFW located at 209 Main St.
The event promises an evening filled with delicious food, lively music by DJ Kenny Lewis, and plenty of opportunities to win exciting prizes. Attendees will enjoy a delectable spread of spaghetti and meatballs, complemented by a cash bar offering a variety of beverages. Additionally, there will be a chance to participate in 50/50 raffles and basket raffles, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Revisiting the Origin of Species
How important is Charles Darwin/Alfred Russel Wallace’s Theory of Natural Selection/evolution? Find out Saturday, April 27 at the Gardiner Library community room, 133 Farmers Turnpike, from 2-3:30 pm.
Why are scientists still investigating evolution in animals and plants 165 years after Charles Darwin published his first book, On the Origin of Species? After brief talks by several scientists, children present will investigate how Darwin’s finches in the Galapagos Islands react to changes in their food supply.
How did society react in 1859 to the publication of the book? How do people now think of evolution? How does a scientific theory differ from what ordinary people call a theory? What is a species? Darwin and Wallace thought evolution affected only individuals – what do scientists now think?
