George Thomas Volz, a longtime resident of Wallkill, New York, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2026.
George was born on August 23, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, to Elizabeth and Edward Volz. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School and later attended Bronx Community College. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who cherished his family above all else. He was married to his beloved wife, Patricia M Volz, who survived him.
George worked as a machinist and was known for being meticulous and detail-oriented in everything he set his mind to. He took great pride in his work and approached life with the same care and dedication.
A lifelong lover of baseball, George became a baseball coach then an umpire for Wallkill Little League, sharing his love of the game with generations of young players. His most memorable time umpiring was the invitation to umpire at the 1991 Senior League World Series for Little League Baseball, in Florida.
He was also a lifetime member of the Wallkill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where he proudly served his community. George was awarded Citizen of the Year in 1989 by the Wallkill Chamber of Commerce.
George enjoyed gardening, Lionel trains, cigars, baseball, a good glass of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Scotch, and spending time with the people he loved.
George is survived by his wife, Patricia M Volz; his children, Paige Brought (Guy Brought), George Volz Jr. (Patricia Volz), and Damien Bosco; his grandchildren, Chris Alwell, Tyler Volz, Kasey Volz, Connor Volz; his brothers, Edward (Marilyn)Volz and John (Ilona) Volz, sister in-law Hertha (Richard) Volz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Edward Volz, and his brother, Richard Volz.
George will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his meticulous and determined nature, his love of baseball, his service to his community, and the many simple pleasures that brought him joy throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial visitation will be held, Friday, September 4, 2026, 5-7 PM, at Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave. Wallkill 12589. Services will follow at 7PM at the funeral home.
