Just came back from Montgomery Day and I must say it was one of the best Montgomery Days ever. Much better traffic flow than the Tractor Parade. Congratulations to who ever came up with the new layout of vendors, a great variety of food and entertainment. This is what summer in a great community is made of.
The Montgomery Volunteer FD will be having a Steak and Cigar Night. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Fire Dept. building at 136 Ward St. It will feature premium steak with all the fixings and beverages. Also there will be premium cigars and for fun their will be raffles and prizes. Tickets are a $100 donation with only 100 tickets available. News from our Montgomery Free Library that they will be starting up a monthly “craft” program, please sign up at the front desk as space is limited. An example of the craft will be posted online and at the library before each session. There are 3 sessions: children 3- 5 years old that will meet the first Friday of the month from 10:30 -11 am. This features a story followed by a simple craft or activity. K-3rd grade students will meet the second Wednesday of the month from 4-5 pm. This features a story and a themed craft. Students age 9 and older will meet the third Wednesday of the month from 4-5 and features a fun craft.
Also, on Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. there will be a Story Time with Lauren Comizio (Betsy’s daughter) for kids ages 3 and up. Do you know that September is National Library Card Sign-up month. You can borrow books from other libraries in the same system as Montgomery Free Library if you have a library card. In October they will be collecting donations for the Montgomery Food Pantry for the Great Give Back. It will be throughout the month of October. Please bring in donations during the open house. The Montgomery Free Library is honored to invite the community to a special dedication ceremony in memory of our beloved Library Director, Betsy Comizio. For more than 30 years, Betsy dedicated herself to the library and to our community. Her passion for literacy, love of learning, and commitment to serving others has left a lasting impact on Montgomery. Please join us on Saturday, September 26, at 1 p.m. at the Montgomery Free Library as we unveil a newly dedicated bookcase in Betsy’s honor. The bookcase will hold reference materials and local history books that reflect Betsy’s passions, values, and many contributions to our community.
We warmly invite all who knew and loved Betsy, as well as members of the community whose lives she touched, to join us for this special tribute.
The American Legion Post 521 Auxiliary announces that there will be a Yard Sale at the American Legion Post 521 on Saturday Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be food for sale. From the Village of Montgomery Senior Center comes the following announcements: There will be a craft Button Pumpkin Class on Oct. 6, at 1 pm. It is $10 per person, all supplies are included. You can bring your own buttons if you like. Call Jo-Ann at 457-9367 to sign up.
You can create your own decoupage faux pumpkin at the Montgomery Senior center.

A family Card Show and Trading Event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3. It will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Montgomery Senior Center, 36 Bridge St. Come to buy, sell, trade or browse. The Town of Montgomery is sponsoring a Senior Resource Day. This year’s focus is on brain health. It is a free program for Town of Montgomery seniors, caregivers, volunteers and the community. It will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. with sign in starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Montgomery Town Hall, 110 Bracken Rd.

Valley Central Scholarship Council will hold its annual Duck Derby on October 24. The location is 60 Bachelor St. Montgomery. Derby race time is 2 pm.
A Touch a Truck event will also be taking place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More on this to come.
The Advisory Board for Senior Citizens phone number is 845-260-4475. A class is returning, Maureen is back with Ukelele Lessons. It is held on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at St. Marys Hall, Montgomery.
They will be hosting a Wellness Fair on Thursday, October 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is free to all at the St. Mary’s Church Hall, 89 Union St. There will be community and health care agencies on hand. Light refreshments will be provided. Call 845-260-4475 for more on this.

Walden Humane Society announces a Bakeware Bingo fundraiser, an Afternoon of Temptations on Sunday, October 4 at the Maybrook Senior Center. Ten games, 25+ raffle baskets, a 50/50, door prizes and some seriously cute bakeware up for grabs. waldenhumane.org/bingo. The Humane Society services a wide range of Towns in our area.
Unfortunately the annual Montgomery Car & Bike Show that was to be held in the Village of Maybrook at the Frederick O Meyers Veterans Memorial Park had to be canceled. Look for its return hopefully next year.
