New vintage shop opens in Montgomery

Vintage collectors across Montgomery rejoiced on February 10, when Bennington’s Antiques, a new store located on 40 Railroad Avenue in the Village of Montgomery, hosted its grand opening and unveiled hundreds of antiques for residents to browse and purchase.

Before 2024, the store was known as the Montgomery Antique Center, established by the late Burton Heath about a decade ago. Within Heath’s shop, several vendors would set up booths that each displayed their collection of antiques for sale. Customers could find a little of everything and something that best suits them, from paintings and sculptures to plushies and fast food toys.

“There’s so many treasures, and when you buy something special for yourself or someone else, it feels unique,” said Bernadette Saladino, one of the store’s vendors.

Heath passed away on December 21, 2020, and his store would continue operating through Frances Shewell, his wife. Chris Bennington, who was a vendor for the antique center, took over the property in January 2024 and spent a month renovating the space.

Opening day featured refreshments, raffle prizes, and massive sales, with new and returning vendors displaying booths of various tastes once more. Everyone involved was thrilled with the new store and looked forward to its future.

“It’s so exciting to have this venue with our very awesome owner,” Saladino said, adding that Bennington worked very hard in the month leading up to the opening.

“I think it’s amazing. It’s the first time all the vendors have met and worked together,” said Marty S. Hodulick, a vendor.

“I love it, this is great. We’re looking for customers from out of the area,” said Belinda, a fellow vendor.

“It’s exciting, we’re hoping to make this a hotspot,” Bennington said, adding that she and the vendors want to host various activities and events at the store.

Bennington’s Antiques is open between Tuesday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (845) 457-7100.
