Operation Toy Train returning to Montgomery

On Sunday, December 11, the tenth annual NY Operation Toy Train will return and depart from Montgomery.

The train will arrive at 12:45 p.m. and depart at 1:55 p.m. from the Rowley Lumber Parking Lot at 46 Railroad Avenue. Participants are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys that will go to the United States Marine Corp. Reserve Toy for Tots Foundation to be distributed to children in need.

There will be food vendors, refreshments, music by DJ Eric and a chance to meet Santa.
Operation Toy Train is a non-profit organization that organizes an annual toy train in parts of New Jersey and New York for the first two weekends of December. The train collects and distributes over 25,000 toys every year.

“The issue last year with just an engine and a caboose was due to the fact that the tracks were in a little rough condition,” said Village Trustee Mike Hembury. “ The railroad replaced numerous ties, and the Village and Railroad together repaired one of our shabby crossings, satisfying conditions for the entire train to arrive. In the past we have had the most famous rail car in the world, the 20th Century Limited, that is privately owned and featured in Grand Central Terminal in 2013, the terminal’s 100th anniversary. I can’t promise that car will be here this year, but I have a feeling it will.”

Any questions about the event can be directed to Hembury at 845-457-9661.
