Panthers eliminated in Section 9 duals tournament

The Wallkill Panthers were eliminated from the Section 9 Division I wrestling duals tournament in the semifinals with a 50-19 loss to the top-seeded Minisink Valley Warriors in the semifinals on Wednesday at Minisink Valley High School.

The Panthers were the No. 5 seed. The No. second-seeded Middletown Middies won the tournament with a 34-27 win over the Warriors in the championship match. They will compete at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Division I dual meet championships on Jan. 27 in Syracuse.

The Warriors got off to a 30-0 lead before Marco Futia got the Panthers on the board with a 17-6 win over Gabriel Simpson at 108 pounds. Liam McCarthy (116) won by decision and Viktor Banda (131) won by disqualification. Devin Strother (124) won by pinfall.

Emmanel Garcia (160), Zachary Filip (215), Mason Murphy (101), Wyatt Boice (138) and Anthony Tresch (145) picked up pinfall victories.
