Pine Bush finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay on their way to a third-place finish at the Section 9 boys’ swimming and diving championships on Saturday at Valley Central High School.

The Valley Central Vikings, who have been coached by Scott Warner for the past three decades, finished seventh with 157 points. Warner is retiring at the end of the year and was presented with a plaque in recognition of his service to the sport.

Warner also was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season by Section 9 swim officials. He received the same honor in November at the girls’ swimming sectional meet.

The Vikings’ Kellen Dickman continued to improve on this state qualifying time in the 100-yard backstroke, even though he just missed the sectional championship to Marlboro’s Josh Johnson.

Dickman finished just a tick behind Johnson at 52.89.

Dickman missed the state cut in the 100-yard breaststroke with a third-place finish.

The Bushmen finished the meet with a total of 206.5 points, with their two high-scoring relays.

In addition to the 200-yard freestyle relay, Bryce Sloley, Charles Hufcut, Andrew Donaldson and Tomek Oakes placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Vikings were right behind them in fourth place.

Oakes was fourth and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, respectively. Hufcut was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100.

Liam Blackwell was ninth in the 100-yard backstroke and Joshua Gallagher was 15th in the 500-yard freestyle.

Valley Central’s Nathaniel Storaska was the area’s top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.81.

He also finished three places behind Dickman in the 100-+yard breaststroke.

The diving event was contested on Friday and Pine Bush’s Kaeden Fisher finished fourth.
