Maggie Goodenough
SUNY Orange sophomore volleyball standout Maggie Goodenough (Pine Bush.) was recently among 20 State University of New York (SUNY) student-athletes named Scholar Athlete of the Year in their respective sports.

SUNY’s Fall Scholar Athlete Awards recognize student-athletes from SUNY colleges and universities sponsoring intercollegiate athletics at the four- and two-year levels who were nominated and voted upon by representatives of their respective institutions. Nominating information includes cumulative grade point average, current and career statistics, and athletic and academic honors.
The Scholar Athletes of the Year in each sport will then be nominated for an overall Scholar Athlete of the Year for men’s sports and women’s sports in each category that will be announced in mid-July. More than 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions representing 53 different colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards.
This past season, Goodenough was named to the Mid-Hudson Conference first team while also earning a nod as second team All-Region XV. She helped the Colts (11-10) to the conference championship match, as well as the regional semifinals, and was named to the MHC all-tournament team. She led the team in kills, digs, digs per set and total points. In 20 matches, she accumulated 130 kills (1.73 per set), 38 assists, 33 service aces, 278 receptions, 415 digs (ranking 29th in the nation among NJCAA Division III players), 5.53 digs per set (ranking 13th in nation) and 165 points.
She departs SUNY Orange as the program’s all-time leader in digs with 799, and her 415 digs this past season were the most by a Colt in at least the past decade.
In the postseason, SUNY Orange was seeded second in the conference tournament. The Colts defeated Westchester 3-1 in the semifinals before losing 3-0 to top seed and nationally ranked Dutchess. The Colts entered the Region XV tournament seeded four, earning a home match in which they defeated Fashion Institute of Technology 3-1. The Colts were even at 1-1 against nationally ranked powerhouse Monroe-Bronx before ultimately falling 3-1.
The Colts are coached by Jeannette Convery.
