Pine Bush boys take 4th in Section 9 track

Bryce Boddie and Griffin Vondeben won an event each, leading the Pine Bush boys’ track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the merged Section 9 Class A championships on Friday.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the sectional meet was held as several regional meets. The Bushmen and Vikings competed at Faller Field in Middletown against Middletown. The official results were merged later.

The Bushmen scored 69 points and Valley Central managed nine. The Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks won the meet with 151 points.

Boddie won the long jump and Vondeben won the pole vault. Boddie also took second in the triple jump.

Connor Kodgis was second in the discus throw, reaching 111-6.

David Ramirez was third in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. Stephen Gihr was third in the shot put, reaching 41-6.

In the girls’ meet, Valley Central was fifth with 62 points and Pine Bush was seventh with 23.

Bianca Staples won the 400-meter dash and high jump, while Chassity Crawford won the discus throw and

Kelly Conan won the triple jump.

Kelly O’Connor was second in the 3,000-meter run.

The Vikings were third in the 4x800-meter relay.

Zoe Rodi was fourth in the 100-and 200-meter dashes for Pine Bush. Michaila Maggiolo was fourth in the long jump, reaching 15-2. Pine Bush was fourth in the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relays.

Class B
Louis Martinez won three events, leading the Wallkill boys’ track team to fifth place at the Section 9 Class B championships on June 7.
The meet was competed at three different sites to maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Panthers competed at Rondout Valley with the Ganders and Saugerties.
Martinez, who recently set a new state record in the pole vault, didn’t go as high on June 7, but his height of 16-1 was two feet better than second-place competitor Noah Brown. Martinez also won the long jump, reaching 22-5 and the triple jump with a distance of 44-10.5.

The Panthers finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:39.60. Devin Martucci was fourth in the discus with a throw of 121-3.
Cornwall won the boys’ meet with 125 points. The Panthers had 50.
The Wallkill girls’ team finished eighth with 13.5 points. Ava Roper was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.50. Averey Badendyck and Carson Villani both cleared 4-4 in the high jump. Arianna Richardson was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.71 seconds. Penelope Rose as fifth in the discus, reaching 76-2.5.

Class D
The Chapel Field girls’ team finished seventh at the Class D merged meet with 26 points. The Lions competed at Sullivan West. Shaylen Goslar won the women’s 1,500-meter dash in 5:08.16 and Amelia App took second in both the 100- and 200-yard dashes with respective times of 13.89 and 29.14. Pine Plains won the girls’ meet and Tri-Valley won the boys’ meet.
