Pine Bush girls beaten in Monroe

It was a struggle just to get the game in.

Originally scheduled for May 2, the Pine Bush softball team’s home game against the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders was moved out of Pine Bush and back to Monroe-Woodbury High School as the recent rains had soaked the Bushmen’s home field at Pine Bush Elementary School.

Still, playing as the visitors, the Crusaders rode a five-run third inning on their way to a 9-3 win.

Leading 2-1, the Crusaders got their third run on a wild pitch, and Alexis Exarchakis drove in their fourth run with a sacrifice fly. Allyson Havercamp had the big blow in the inning when she delivered a two-run triple to give the Crusaders a 6-1 lead. Maddy Bendix drove in the Crusaders’ seventh run with a ground out to second base.

Exarchakis got the win in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned. She struck out 13 batters. She also had three hits, including a double and a solo home run in the fifth inning. She finished with three RBIs and three runs scored. Havercamp doubled and tripled and drove in two runs.

Ashley Ogden was saddled with the loss after allowing nine runs, six earned. She allowed 10 hits and struck out five.

Kayla Suleski had two hits, including a double and two runs scored. Ogden drove in two runs with a base hit in the third inning. The Bushmen scored a run in the first inning when Courtney Meyer reached on an error by Exarchakis.

The Bushmen finished the week on Thursday with an 11-5 road loss to the Warwick Wildcats.

It’s been a rough season for the Bushmen, who opened the season with a 6-0 win over the Port Jervis Raiders before losing their next seven. They routed the Washingtonville Wizards, 25-1, on April 25 before losing their next four games.
