Sharon Schoonmaker,79, of Pine Bush, passed away unexpectedly on January 13, 2023.

She was born in Kingston, NY on December 4, 1944, to her parents Spencer and Lillian Schoonmaker of Gardiner, NY. She graduated from Wallkill High School in 1962 and entered OCCC to pursue a medical secretary degree. She worked for the urology group of Doctors Marx, Manson, and Patel for twenty-five years. Her next opportunity came from the Storm King School in Cornwall, NY where she became Office manager and spent over 30 years with the school community. She was still working at SKS when she became ill.

She was a lifelong member of The Reformed Church of Shawangunk. In her spare time, she loved to read, crochet, and construct jigsaw puzzles.

She dedicated her life to providing excellent and loving care for her mother Lillian who is 107 years old and lived at home with Sharon. She was dedicated to her work at Storm King School where she enjoyed the challenges of her office, but most important to her was her “SKS family”. All who worked there got to know Sharon in some capacity. She loved her job and colleagues and wasn’t looking to retire any time soon.
She is survived by her mother Lillian Schoonmaker, her sister, Beverly Strong (Robert Heasley), nephew, Morgan Strong, and several loving cousins.

A ceremony of Christian Burial will be held in her honor at The Reformed Church of Shawangunk, 1166 Hoagerburgh Road, Wallkill on Saturday, January 28 at 10 a.m., immediately followed by the internment service at the Brunswick Rural Cemetery adjoining the church.

All donations made in Sharon’s honor can be made to The Reformed Church of Shawangunk.
