Town Wide Yard Sale is April 30

Posted

This past weekend, numerous residents and volunteers from the Wallkill community joined together for the annual Clean Sweep by removing rubbish from the roads and banks of the Wallkill River. In honor of Earth Day, more people each year are moved to action to protect the environment and further promote sustainability of this rural town. In this same spirit, more than 50 households will take part in the annual Shawangunk Town-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday to sell useful items instead of directly disposing them in overflowing landfills. If you are a shopper who shares this sentiment or simply are in search of unused treasures for a bargain, this event is one not to miss. Stop by and shop on Saturday April 30 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the best yard sales concentrated in the Wallkill hamlet and surrounding area. Check Vision of Wallkill’s Facebook page on Friday for the list of addresses having yard sales. Make your first stop at Popp Park, 3081 Route 208, to shop the tables full of treasures offered by families and pick up a copy of the list for all the yard sales in the Town of Shawangunk.

In the coming weeks, the Wallkill Hamlet will also host a number of other family-friendly events including the inaugural Duck Derby on the Wallkill River on Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. Hosted by Vision of Wallkill and Wallkill High School’s Senior Celebration Committee, come support this event by adopting a duck and watch the derby to help benefit Wallkill’s senior class. Yellow rubber ducks will be launched into the Wallkill River, each contending to cross the finish line at Popp Park to claim the coveted “Fastest Duck” award and cash prize. Tickets will be available at upcoming community events: Yard Sale at Popp Park on April 30 and at the “VOW’S COWS” reveal on the Wallkill Public Library on May 7. Duck Derby tickets are also available at the Wallkill Public Library during regular business hours.

Please donate your surplus items to the Wallkill Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry when organizing your pantry or doing your family shopping. The pantry assists nearly 300 families to meet food and other basic needs and asks the community to help bridge the gap in their supply shortages. There is a need for canned chili, peaches, pears and other canned fruits, macaroni & cheese, hygiene products including bar soaps, deodorants, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste. You may drop off your donations at the pantry located behind the Wallkill Reformed Church at 45 Bridge Street. If you prefer, monetary donations (checks payable to Wallkill Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry) can be mailed to PO Box 54, Wallkill NY 12589.

Details for these and all Vision of Wallkill events are available on VOW’s Facebook and Instagram pages, or call/text 845-527-6230.
