Valley Central swimmers fall to Warwick

After posting a season-opening win over the Marlboro Dukes to start their season, the Vikings were defeated on December 13, 12 days after their victory, 103-73 by the Warwick Wildcats at Valley Central High School.

Goshen and S.S. Seward also competed in the meet but did not take part in any scoring events.

Jesse Abramson (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle) led the Wildcats with two wins, while Michael Kelly (200-yard individual medley), Youssef Moustafa (50-yard freestyle), Lucas Wensley (diving), Connor Holland (100-yard backstroke) and Benjamin Pitiger (100-yard breaststroke) all picked up victories for the Wildcats.

Warwick also won the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

Thomas Grabinski (100-yard butterfly) and Adam Elkashef (100-yard freestyle) each had a victory for the Vikings. The team of Noah Storaska, Elkashef, Daniel Osekavage and Dardan Cenalia won the 400-yard freestyle relay to end the night for the Vikings.

The Vikings are looking to build on last year’s team behind key returners Storaska, Elkashef, Cenalia, Grabinski and his brother, Timothy, as Thomas Plitsch takes over for longtime coach Scott Warner.

The Vikings are looking to build on last year’s seventh-place finish at the Section 9 tournament and hope to compete for a top 10 finish. The Vikings also are hopeful to send several individuals, and possibly a relay team, to the state championships at Ithaca College in March.

“As a first-year head coach of the team, I am excited to be coaching such a great group of young men,” Plitsch said. “I have excellent assistant coaches with me and I’m confident that the team will be successful this year.”
