Valley Central senior Ava Carsley finished 13th at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A girls’ cross country championships on Saturday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School in Section 3.
She finished the course in 19:15.7, about 1:13 off the pace set by state champion Zariel Macchia of Section 11 William Floyd. She won the race in 18:02.6.
Pine Bush’s Shaylen Goslar was 46th with a time of 20:19.2, and Wallkill’s Emma Dilemme was 71st in 21:10.2.
Section 2’s Saratoga Springs won the overall team championship with 23 points. Section 9 finished eighth with 588 points, while Section 2 won the meet with 144 points.
Boys
Valley Central’s Jacob Sahlstrom finished 103rd in the NYSPHSAA Class A race with a time of 18:48, about 2:41 off the pace set by state champion, Section 8 Baldwinsville’s Solomon Holden-Betts.
Section 4’s Corning won the overall team championship with 60 points and Section 9 finished seventh with 512 points. Section 11 was best with 337 points.
