Walden manager, at long last, has a new contract

Walden’s village manager finally has an updated and current adopted employee contract.

This comes after concerns late last year when many Walden residents learned the village manager, John Revella, had been working without a contract since it expired June 1, 2022.

When it came to light, the board faced some criticism. Former Mayor Susan Taylor addressed the village board in December, stating it shouldn’t be so hard. “I find it hard to believe you haven’t had the time to do it. I think it’s insulting that you have one employee you have to evaluate and you couldn’t get it done in this amount of time,” said Taylor.

Although Revella wasn’t too bothered by the delay in contract, the board still decided to move forward with evaluation and an updated contract.

The contract was adopted last week and is effective from June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2024. There were only a few comments from board members, including tweaking some language and questioning the amount of off-duty hours. No big changes were necessary.

The manager’s annual salary is listed as $110,000, according to the 2022-23 village budget.

Trustee Patricia Maher also recommended having a better time frame and overall clarity with evaluation forms after Trustee Lynn Thompson recommended a new, updated form for next year.

Village of Walden Attorney David Donovan suggested they make a policy for it.
