Wallkill police officer assists choking woman

Town of Wallkill police Officer Heather Dunnigan helped save the life of an 82-year-old woman who was choking on a piece of candy Sept. 15 at Bob’s Discount Furniture, 88 Dunning Road.

Police were dispatched at about 7:08 p.m., and Dunnigan arrived less than a minute later. She found the woman actively choking and immediately provided medical assistance, ultimately removing the obstruction.

The woman was turned over to Town of Wallkill Emergency Medical Services and transported to Garnet Health Medical Center for further evaluation. She was conscious and alert and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police credited Dunnigan’s quick recognition of the life-threatening emergency and immediate actions with helping save the woman’s life.
