Homicide reported on Monument Street

On June 9, 2024, at approximately 12 a.m.  the City of Newburgh Police Department was dispatched to 90 Courtney Avenue for a Shotspotter activation of multiple shots fired. 

Responding Officers located a victim of a gunshot wound in the area of 7 Monument Street. This victim was deceased.

A second victim was located at Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital, with a non-life-threatening injury.

The City of Newburgh Police Department was assisted by the NYSP, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Newburgh Police Department, Town of New Windsor Police Department, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Identities of the victims are not being released at this time pending notifications to family.

The suspect remains unknown.

The City of Newburgh Detective Division is investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives at 845-569-7509. All calls will remain confidential.
