SAVE Act, HR 828

Posted

In 2016, Democrats falsely claimed that election was “stolen” due to “foreign election interference.” In 2020, Republicans claimed ‘evidence’ of election fraud.

The National Voter Registration Act Of 1993 (NVRA), also referred to as the “Motor Voter Law” “requires that States offer voter registration opportunities at State motor vehicle agencies. Section 6 of the NVRA requires that States offer voter registration opportunities by mail-in application. Section 7 of the NVRA requires that States offer voter registration opportunities at certain State and local offices, including public assistance and disability offices.” Concerns are being raised that with the large influx of “newcomers” being able to obtain drivers licenses, the upcoming election may be compromised with these individuals casting invalid ballots.

In 2021 a New York City law involving local elections gave voting privileges to about 800,000 legal non-citizens, who are in the U.S. legally, to vote in local elections. Fortunately, a judge struck down that law. With growing concerns about election integrity in the upcoming 2024 federal elections, House Republicans submitted the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, HR 8281 in May of this year. The proposed bill would “require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office”. Their aim is simple, one American citizen, one vote.

The Biden Administration released their statement opposing this bill on July 8th, even before the bill was voted on, “The Administration strongly opposes H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act.”

The bill passed the House on Wednesday, July 10th. No Republican voted against the bill. There were 5 Democrats who voted Yes. The Congressman for New York’s 18th Congressional District, Pat Ryan was not one of them. Only time will tell if Senator Chuck Schumer will be brave enough to bring the bill to the Senate floor for a vote so you can learn if your Senator wants to protect your vote. Are you confident that your vote won’t be canceled by one falsely submitted by one of the millions of “newcomers’?
