Anita L. Vandermark

Anita L. Vandermark of Walden,  passed away on June 22, 2024 at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown,.  She was 92.  

Anita was born on July 16, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Leonard Portuondo and Natalia Gricewich.  She was married to the late Douglas E. Vandermark.  

Anita was the confidential secretary to the Honorable Judge Elaine Slobod of the Orange County Court System. She was a member of Most Precious Blood Church, Walden Community Council, Harvest Fest Committee, Walden Sunshine Society, Walden Woman's Club, Historical Society of Walden and Wallkill Valley, Veterans Memorial Park Committee as well as the Chairperson for the Village of Walden Ethics Board.  

Anita was a Retired Senior Volunteer, Volunteer for the Office for the Aging Program, Volunteer at Orange Regional Hospital and a member of the National Night Out Committee as well as Friends of the Walden Youth.  She was a Recipient of the Orange County Citizen Award and the Sam Phelps Service Award.  

Anita was well known for her columns in the Wallkill Valley Times.  She was a pillar of the community and will be dearly missed by her family and all those who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra A. Magill of Walden; brother, Leonard A. Portuondo (Kathleen) Sebastian, Fl.; Grandson, Scotty Evans Magill of St. Augustine, FL; Great granddaughter, Sadie Evans Magill of St Augustine, Fl; cousin Bill Sivillo (Cindy) of Bullville; niece, Joan Lake of Montgomery; nephews, Bruce Vandermark of Walden, Larry Vandermark of Pine Bush, Scott Portuondo (Melissa) of Fairport, NY and Kevin Portuondo (Kimberly) of Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

She was predeceased by her husband Douglas, her parents and her sister Gladys Harley.

Visitation will take place on Thursday June 27, 2024 from 3-7 p.m. at the Anita L. Vandermark Community Center located at 97 Sherman Avenue, Walden 

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 28, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, 42 Walnut Street, Walden.  

Burial will follow the funeral mass in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Rte 52 Walden.
