Newburgh’s Deputy Superintendent to resign

Posted

The Newburgh Board of Education accepted the resignation of Deputy Superintendent Ed Forgit at their regular meeting on Thursday, June 20. Forgit’s resignation will be effective Friday, Aug. 16, concluding a 15-year tenure in the district.

A letter from Superintendent Jackielyn Manning Campbell was posted to the district website to inform parents and the community of the resignation.

“I am writing with bittersweet news for our community. Mr. Ed Forgit, our deputy superintendent, has submitted his resignation. Mr. Forgit has had a tremendous impact on the professional development and direction of our professionals and, by extension, the lives of our children,” Manning Campbell said.

Forgit also shared a message within the superintendent’s letter: “Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the students, faculty, and staff of the district. My years in Newburgh have provided me with an amazing opportunity to support our students. The many relationships I have established have changed my life. However, I have been gifted with an opportunity that has presented itself to me on three separate occasions throughout my almost 30-year career. This opportunity has always intrigued me, warmed my heart, and provided the possibility for a better balance between a professional life and a personal life. This new opportunity will provide a challenging educational experience that will impact many teachers, leaders, and students. So, it is with great confidence and excitement that I am resigning from my position as your deputy superintendent effective Aug. 16, 2024. I will be joining an amazing organization, led by an inspirational superintendent and leadership team that mirrors my vision and commitment to education. As a graduate of the Class of 1982, I promise I will always be committed to Every Goldback, Every Day.”

Forgit received an award for Excellence in Administration from the Mid-Hudson School Study Council in 2021 and has served as deputy superintendent of the district for the past decade. He also served as interim superintendent during the suspension of former superintendent Roberto Padilla following allegations of inappropriate behavior at a conference in Las Vegas.

Manning Campbell expressed in her letter that she and Forgit have had open discussions about his career plans and supported his decision to move on from the district. She recognized this decision as a significant loss for the district. With the resignation, she stated she has adjusted the job description for the deputy superintendent and will begin a search immediately for a replacement.
